IQP BACKFLOW TESTING AUCKLAND
What is backflow?
Backflow is when water flows in the wrong direction through a plumbing system, potentially allowing contaminated water to enter the clean drinking-water supply.
This can happen when there is a sudden drop in water pressure or when pressure in a connected system becomes higher than the mains supply. Contaminants such as chemicals, bacteria and other harmful substances can then enter the potable water network, creating a risk to public health.
Backflow prevention devices are designed to stop this from happening, helping to keep our drinking water safe.
Common devices include:
RPZ valve (Reduced Pressure Zone): Provides a high level of protection for higher-risk connections.
Double check valve: Used for certain lower-risk applications.
Vacuum breaker: Often used on hose taps and irrigation systems to prevent back-siphonage.
Where is backflow a concern?
Irrigation systems and garden hoses.
Commercial kitchens and dishwashers.
Fire sprinkler systems.
Swimming pools and spa pools.
Industrial equipment and chemical dosing systems.
At J&J Plumbing, we provide professional IQP backflow testing services to ensure your backflow prevention devices are functioning correctly and helping protect your water supply.
Auckland Council requires homes and businesses to test for backflow at least once a year, and that buildings have adequate backflow prevention mechanisms like prevention devices or air gaps. Dynamic Plumbing Works has independent qualified persons (IQPs) who can do backflow testing, as well as qualified plumbers who can install backflow prevention systems.
Backflow testing is a legal requirement — every testable device needs annual IQP certification. Most testing companies only test. If the device fails, you need to call a plumber, then call the tester back. We do both. Test, repair, retest, certify — all in one visit, one invoice. $0 call out fee.
